JOOUST PARTNERS WITH EQUITY BANK TO GREEN THE ENVIRONMENT

Jaramogi Oginga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in collaboration with Equity Bank Ang’awa Branch Kisumu, launched a tree planting exercise that will see JOOUST plant more than 5000 tree seedlings in three months.

The Ceremonial planting was led by the Vice - Chancellor Prof. Stephen G. Agong’ and Ms. Alice Ouma, the Branch Manager Equity Ang’awa Branch Kisumu, who delivered a donation of 3600 seedlings to the University to kick off the project.

While giving his opening remarks during the occasion, Prof. Agong’ expressed his excitement for having been part of an activity that will eventually benefit not only the University but also the entire region in the long run. “I sincerely want to appreciate the goodwill that we as a university have received from equity bank especially, the Ang’awa Branch in Kisumu. What they have done for us today will have a great impact in this region as a result of the rainfall that will come due to this trees. The rain will not only fall in the University but to the community at large.” Said Prof. Agong’.

On her part, Ms. Alice Ouma, said that they consider JOOUST as more than a friend. She said that the branch has served the University community since inception while looking forward to more fruitful collaboration. She applauded the tremendous steps that the University has taken to ensure a greener environment that is in line with the bank’s Environmental pillar which involves planting trees as a key pillar under the Equity Foundation. “Every time I visit this University I’m always pleased to notice new changes that makes it better and better. I must appreciate the efforts made by the leadership of the University that has created a friendly environment even to us as a bank to partner with you in this project and many more to come.” Ms. Alice commented. “I would also like to encourage the students here with us today to demonstrate a leadership role in tree planting to better our environment.” She added.

The Ceremony was also attended by the Kenya Forestry Official in Siaya County, Mr. Nehemiah Ochieng and his Counterpart from KEFRI who both took part in the exercise. The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by his three Deputies led by Prof. Benson Estambale who steered the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
