JOOUST HOSTS THE FIRST AARUK WORKSHOP

The University hosted a two-day workshop of Academic Registers drawn from both Public and Private Universities in Kenya. The event which took place from the 23rd- 24th May 2019 was characterized by the official launch of the Association of Academic Registrars of Kenya Universities (AARUK).

While officially opening the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Agong’, who was also the Chief Guest, acknowledged the Registrars for the good work they are doing in the universities stating that they hold key positions in University’s Management. “Registrars are the custodians of the University’s high profile documents mostly student data which is the major focus of the institutions of higher learning”. The VC said. He also challenged the over 50 Registrars from different universities in attendance to be honest while carrying out their work noting that what they do can either ruin or build the life of a student.

These statements were supported by the AARUK Patron Professor Maurice Okoth, who is the Vice- Chancellor Kenya Methodist University (KEMU). Prof. Okoth reiterated the need for team work in the Universities for better performance. He encouraged the Registrars to use the forum to share some of the administrative skills as far as their roles are concerned in the university management.

AARUK Chairman, Dr. Walter Akuno who is the Registrar Academic Affairs, JOOUST, expressed the importance of the association saying Registrars are appointed from different professional fields and that have no formal training on the role of a Registrar hence need to share experiences with colleagues from other universities to foster and deliberate on issues affecting the profession for increased effectiveness and efficiency at work. He stressed that AARUK is an association formed to empower Registrars on technical knowledge.
